Meet Dr. Steve

To really know me, you have to give me a couple of minutes to share with you how my life was changed forever by Chiropractic.  It all started when I was 13 years old;

I was playing basketball with some older kids and was showing off.  I fell on my neck, shoulder and elbow.  The pain was horrible, I immediately felt sick to my stomach but I did my best to bounce back up.  I turned away from my friends and started to cry.  I was embarrassed and didn't want them to see me like this.  It took all I had to hide my injury from my mom but she could just tell that things were not right.

It wasn't long before we ended up at Dr. Gallagher's office, our family doctor. I had been a frequent visitor to Dr. Gallagher, with cuts, bruises and stitches. He was always able to help me.  I left his office with a prescription and assurance that things would be just fine.   I followed his instructions and instead of the pain getting better, it got worse.  The medication made me sick and I couldn't focus or think clearly. Dr. Gallagher referred me to an orthopedic doctor and his exam revealed that I had a severe neck injury and cracked the growth plate in my elbow.  The orthopedist explained that surgery was the best option to decrease my pain.  He explained that neck and shoulder pain should ease and I could regain the use of my elbow.  He could not guarantee that I would ever be able to return to playing sports.  My mom cried, and then I cried.  It was not a good scene.

This was serious.  When we got home my whole family came together and discussed my problem.  They knew that the surgery would change my life forever.  What I did not realize was there was a very good chance that I may never be able to play sports again.   Playing sports, especially football, was my passion, this hit me like a ton of bricks.

My mom was on the phone with a close friend.  What I didn't know is that my mom's friend talked her into to taking me to see a chiropractor.  She had neck problems and visited a chiropractor and had fantastic results. I remember to this day I was scared to death.  All I ever heard was that chiropractors were quacks.

We ended up in a chiropractic office.  I met the doctor and I knew I was in for it.  He was 6 foot and 3 inches tall and looked like he weighed about 250lbs.  He did an examination, took some x-rays and explained that he believed that he could help me.  The chiropractor "adjusted" my spine and it didn't hurt at all, in fact it felt good.  I could move my neck better and I finally had some relief.

Each time I saw the chiropractor I felt like I got better and better.  He was a great guy.  I was now looking forward to my adjustments.  In a couple of weeks I barely had any pain and I was getting stronger.  I know this may sound crazy but I just felt better overall after my adjustments.

Even with all of this progress my mother insisted that we return to the orthopedist. We had a follow up visit and needed to make that decision about the surgery.  I had been telling my mom I was better.  I'm not sure if she did not believe me or if she just wanted another opinion. The orthopedist did another exam and came back into the consultation room. He sat down and in a stern manner said what have you been doing?

The orthopedist said I haven't seen this before, but it appears that the growth plate fracture is healing and the neck and shoulder are fine.  He explained that surgery was not necessary and I was free to go about my normal daily activities.

The chiropractor and the care I received saved me from having to have surgery.  Do you remember when I said sports were my thing?  I was able to play football and became a pretty good high school player.  I was named one of the 33 best in the state of Pennsylvania.  I had several scholarship offers.  I chose the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) and played in several Bowl games.  Many of my teammates went on to play in the NFL, two of which won Super Bowl rings.

I was recently inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.  The best part of that whole experience was that I was able to invite my chiropractor to the banquet.  I was so happy that he was a part of the celebration. I will never be able to thank him enough, he had changed my life forever.

Today, I am helping people with neck and back pain, headaches, numbness in the arms and legs, sport injuries, ear aches, colic and many other health concerns.  Now I am changing lives through chiropractic care.

Today I eat well, exercise and get routine chiropractic adjustments.  We call this the Chiropractic lifestyle I have only missed one day of work in the last 11 years.  I rarely, if ever get sick and when I do get banged up from sports or life, I bounce right back.  It's like I just heal better.

I would love to meet you, discuss your health related goals and help you get back to wellness.

Many Blessings,

Dr. Steve
